Passion Project Introduction
On this page, I will show you what my Passion Project was. I decided on making a video project as my Passion Project, as I like video editing, and want to learn more about it.
The video project is about a Self Driving Car challenge, where a team who represents Fontys had to make an autonomous vehicle that can drive automatically, stay within the road, stop for stop signs, basically adhering to the rules there are. The video would be put on YouTube, and shared across multiple platforms.

The first step that I needed to do was finding out what is expected from me. I had gotten instructions about what to film, and that I needed to deliver a video that can be used on YouTube. I watched a couple videos from other universities on how they approach making the video, and I looked at what the style of Fontys is. I used the
guides from Fontys themselves for the colors, fonts and positioning of different elements. I also looked at interviews from NOS and other news programs to see how they use namecards on the screen, and combined that with the style of Fontys.
Develop
The video material that was shooted was from two different cameras. This meant having two separate audio channels. However, as it was really windy on the day of filming, the audio from both cameras wasn't usable at all. This created a new struggle for me, sa I did need audio. I went to check the official livestream that the RDW held on YouTube and noticed how they had audio straight coming from the microphone. I downloaded the livestream (which was more than 6 hours long) and cut out the shots that were filmed. I aligned the livestream audio with my video footage and it luckily was a perfect match (after painstakingly aligning the audiowaves manually).
I also checked how to use subtitles on YouTube and used Davinci Resolve to get properly formatted subtitles.
When I thought I had everything ready I asked Natalie for her opinion. She suggested to remove a certain part of the video which contained a shot of another university. She stated how it came falling out of nowhere, and isn't clear for the viewer. I then agreed with this to let this part out of the final video.
Deliver
As end product I delivered three different files. One was the video without subtitles, one video with subtitles burned into the video, and a separate subtitles file to be easily used on YouTube.
Here you can see the
end product.
